Compared to in-person classes, instructors and students alike are struggling to adapt to online classes, especially in terms of how to effectively communicate with each other. Depending on the class, instructors may not even be able to see their students. How can we tell we are getting our point across, and, when sending students to breakout rooms, how can we confirm they are engaging with the task? There are now more challenges to ensuring good communication.

This workshop to boost online communication will be led by former TV announcer Junko MORI of Happy Arrow, Inc. It will focus on understanding how to communicate with students in the context of online classes, including what preparations are needed, how to provide clear instructions, and other ways to make certain classes will proceed smoothly.

Junko currently conducts online classes at a number of universities, making good use of the experience she has gained working as a TV announcer, a position demanding effective communication skills via a screen.

This workshop will provide practical training to reduce miscommunication and the amount of stress felt in classes by both the instructor and students.
