Active learning in today’s classrooms engages students with complex concepts and problem solving through application of knowledge, group work, online interaction, simulations and discussions, among other approaches. Research on active learning has demonstrated that it helps students understand and retain complex concepts longer and more easily and enables students to apply what they have learned in new situations.
During the session we will demonstrate a set of learning activities and tools that faculty can use to engage students in small and large classes and discuss how educational technologies can enhance active learning in higher education. Participants will also explore strategies to promote interaction among their students and help students articulate the skills they gain from active learning experiences.
