University education seeks the way to transform the way students learn, from absorbing the knowledge, to learning by themselves. However, university faculty staff have limited opportunities to learn how to educate students.
This workshop is aimed at presenting necessary things to understand the fundamentals of education to create a course, like the method of designing active learning type lessons, creating syllabus, and is also an opportunity to have a stimulating talk with people who share the same goals.

Contents of a workshop

In this workshop, newly appointed teachers gathered from various departments can acquire the fundamentals of education in a natural way through discussions among fellow teachers in the atmosphere of an exchange meeting. The basis of education consists of needs, targets, strategies, evaluation, and syllabus is like a miniature of education. You will become aware of various things in the process of creating your own syllabus.
Specifically, the participants will brush up own syllabus at a first day, and next day they will make a microteaching based on their own syllabus for 15 minutes.

Participants

Members of faculty who took their post no longer than 5 years ago (assistant professor and higher positions, including specially appointed positions) in charge of a class (or plans to be in charge in the future), and who can participate the workshop for two days.

Capacity

Capacity of Participants: 30-35 people from Hokkaido University, 5-10 people from universities other than Hokkaido University. A total of about 40 people.

Diploma

A certificate of completion from Hokkaido University president will be awarded to those who completed the course.

Others

In this fiscal year, we are planning to hold this event three times in total, also on 2018/9/11 – 2018/9/12 (on campus*) and 2018/11/9 – 2018/11/10 (in Kita-Hiroshima). * The workshop held on campus will not include accommodation.
Participants are expected to communicate with other participants in Japanese, or in Japanese and English.
