In compliance with the university’s policy on preventing the spread of COVID-19, some classes this semester were conducted only partially in-person.
As it will likely still take some time for the current situation to allow for the return of 100% face-to-face classes, we would like to showcase an example of a class of a large size (around 250 students) which utilized a hybrid format.
The instructor and some students from the class have been invited to speak about their experience, such as how the final exam was conducted and the assignments.
The class to be introduced allowed students to choose whether they wanted to take the class online or in-person on any given week, including the final exam. These types of classes are called “hybrid classes.” Since the students were presented with such flexibility, the class also saw an average attendance rate of over 95%. The students who will be speaking include those who took the class entirely in-person, entirely online, and also some who switched between the two.
This workshop covers the pros and cons of the hybrid class format and will give participants the opportunity to discuss the topic in depth.
