Since the end of last year, generative AI, such as ChatGPT, based on large-scale language models, has developed rapidly, generating a significant impact and repercussions. Concerns about its usage are no exception within the field of education, especially in universities. The ‘Notes on the Use of Generative AI’ recently released by Hokkaido University require individual teachers to ‘explain in advance to students in class the permissions and restrictions on the use of generative AI’ and ‘take care to maintain fairness in grading when students use generative AI for assignments and practical work’. However, teachers may be uncertain about how to deal with this. This workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to experience ChatGPT through group and individual work, and to discuss and exchange opinions on how to respond to this issue in their own classes. Additionally, Dr. Shigeta of the Open Education Centre, who was involved in preparing the ‘Notes on the Use of Generative AI’, will give a more detailed explanation.
