Have you ever encountered an international student who can only communicate in English, or received a phone call from a faculty member who must conduct all of their procedures in English? Such occurrences are unavoidable, regardless of which department you are transferred to. In these situations, you would prefer to be able to communicate in simple English yourself, rather than relying on someone who can speak English and having to ask,“XX-san, please take care of this for me.”
Following the success of our 2-hour intensive training held last December, we are pleased to announce its reoccurrence. This practical seminar will once again incorporate a variety of interactive pair work activities, along with English expressions commonly used during receptions at an Academic conference, as requested by participants. Through paired activities based on realistic scenarios, participants will practice and enhance their English communication skills.
This seminar offers practical/business English conversation training to both faculty and staff members. The purpose of this training is to help re-familiarize yourself with spoken English, recall words and expressions you have already learned as students, and be able to speak confidently in situations where you have to perform your duties in English.
The role-playing scenarios incorporating expressions (at the beginner level) such as:
・Requesting assistance or favors
・Conveying personal situations using cushion words
・Expressing negation or refusal
・Using "We (the university, the faculty)" as the subject instead of "I"
・Making suggestions or recommendations for actions
・Basic expressions used at the reception desk at Academic conferences
After the seminar, there will be a networking session including a Q&A with the instructor. We encourage you to join us for this opportunity to further enhance your English communication skills and expand your professional network.
※ This session covers the same contents as the one held on May 24th.
※ Please note that photographs will be taken during the session for use in publicity activities and other promotional materials.
