国の調べによると，大学教員の研究時間は年々減少傾向にあります。学部運営に関わる仕事の増加や教育，社会サービスにかける時間の増加が原因です。研究パフォーマンスをあげるための有効な手段として大学教員に考えられている要因の中には，大学運営業務・学内事務手続きの効率化，教育活動の負担軽減，博士研究者・若手研究者の確保，継続性に配慮した研究資金制度などがあげられています。
　本シンポジウムは「教育活動の負担軽減」や「博士研究者・若手研究者の確保」といった要因について，TA制度など教育活動における学生の活用に焦点を当て，参加者と幅広く議論する機会としたいと考えております。具体的には，学部学生・大学院生の教育活動への参加を促すSA・TAや教育活動に必要な知識・技術の教育，PFF（Preparing Future Faculty）などがテーマとして挙げられます。
　国内外の事例を参考に，重要な課題となっている日本の研究レベルのさらなる向上を含む高等教育の質保証問題について議論します。

According to the examination in our country, the time the faculty members spend on their research is decreasing every year. One of the causes is the amount of time used for undergraduate student management, education and other social services. Some factors are considered as an effective means for increasing the research performance of the faculty staff. These factors include the efficiency of university management and university administrative procedures, reducing the burden of educational activities, ensuring the doctoral and young researchers, and establishing a continued research funding system.
This symposium is an opportunity to discuss widely about such factors as “reducing the burden of educational activities” and “ensuring doctoral and young researchers”, especially for using students in educational activities such as TA (Teaching Assistant) system. For example, SA (Student Assistant) and TA, which are encouraged to participate in the in the educational activities, trainings to acquire necessary educational skills, and PFF (Preparing Future Faculty) Workshop.
We would like to discuss the quality assurance problems of higher education including the further improvement of the research level, in reference to Japanese and overseas examples.
